I wouldn’t say I’m a fan of Jagmeet Singh’s political approach.
The NDP leader made a mess of walking away from his deal with the liberals and hasn’t provided voters any broad appeal.
But he should score some points for how he confronted a heckler on Parliament Hill.
There’s video where a protester is clearly yelling stuff out to Singh. He’s largely ignored until something makes him snap, and Singh turns on his heel and confronts the man.
He maintains he heard someone say “corrupt ****,” a word I can’t say on the radio.
The man replies, “Look, buddy, it wasn’t me. It was someone behind me,” and the exchange continues.
In fact, I encourage you to watch the video, and you’ll hear quite clearly someone make that accusation of Singh.
Given that the Shawnigan handshake has been widely viewed and in some circles, even celebrated, I’d say Singh remained quite restrained.
How lucky are we to live in a democracy where citizen and politician can have such an exchange and it ends in the most Canadian way possible.
